Concrete Contractor Serving Chippewa Falls, WI

Chippewa Falls sets its own rules for concrete, and they are not Eau Claire's. The driveway approach needs a city permit, the public sidewalk is the owner's to pay for, and a patio has to keep its distance from the lot line. We are an Eau Claire concrete contractor that works in Chippewa Falls on driveways, slabs, garage floors, patios and walks. This page covers what a homeowner here runs into.

Concrete Driveway Contractors in Chippewa Falls

The driveway is the biggest piece of concrete at most houses, and the one that takes the most wear. Some jobs are new drives on a new build. More are replacements: a slab that has broken into pieces, heaved at the garage, or scaled along the street edge after years of salt. For a replacement we tear out the old drive, haul it off, rebuild the base where it has gone soft, then form, pour and finish. Some people still call it a cement driveway. It is the same job.

A driveway has two parts with two sets of rules. The part on your lot is yours to lay out. The approach, the stretch between the street and your property line, sits in the public right-of-way, and the City of Chippewa Falls decides how it is built. Any concrete driveway contractor working in Chippewa Falls should bring that up before you do.

How we lay out, pour and joint a drive, the signs an old one is finished and typical price ranges are on our page about how a concrete driveway is built and replaced.

Chippewa Falls Driveway Permit and Approach Rules

The approach is where Chippewa Falls differs most from Eau Claire. The city requires a permit for it, writes a minimum for the concrete, and limits who can hold the permit. That last point matters when you hire: ask whoever you are talking to who pulls the permit.

Widening a drive, adding a second approach or moving one is a question for Public Works before anything is formed. It is far easier to change a drawing than a curb cut.

Concrete Slabs and Garage Floors in Chippewa Falls

We pour concrete slabs in Chippewa Falls for garages, sheds, shops and equipment pads. What the slab carries decides how it is built, so the first questions are what will park or sit on it and whether a building goes on top.

For a garage, it matters whether it is attached to the house. Wisconsin’s dwelling code sets a minimum for the floor of an attached garage on a home it covers, and it does not apply to detached garages. A detached garage or shed answers to the city, so ask the City Inspector what is expected before the slab is laid out.

Our pages on concrete slab pouring for sheds and shops and on replacing a garage floor cover the base, thickness, joints and typical prices.

Concrete Patios, Walks and Sidewalks

A patio or a private walk in Chippewa Falls is mostly a layout question. City zoning allows walks, drives and paved terraces in setback areas, as long as they stay at least 3 feet from an abutting property line other than a street line. We stake the outline with you before any sod comes up, and the slab is sloped so water runs away from the house. Finishes, sizing and drainage are covered on our page about new concrete patios and patio replacement.

The public sidewalk is a different matter, because the owner is responsible for it.

Those thicknesses are the city’s rule for its public walk. They are not a rule for a walk on your own lot. Eau Claire handles sidewalk repair differently, and that program is explained on our page about concrete walkways and the Eau Claire sidewalk program.

Foundations and Footings in Chippewa Falls

Foundation installation and slab foundations are listed on our Google profile. Call first, because what we take on depends on the job.

A footing under a house or an addition goes below the frost, and Wisconsin’s dwelling code sets how deep for the homes it covers. Chippewa Falls has adopted that code for additions and alterations to older homes as well, so an addition on an older house is usually held to it. Detached garages and sheds are outside the state code and follow the city’s rules.

What to have ready before you call a concrete foundation contractor is on our page about foundation and footing work.

Outside the City: County Roads and Lake Wissota Lots

A Chippewa Falls address is not always inside the city. In the towns around it, the road decides who to call. A new driveway onto a county trunk highway, or a change to an existing access, goes through Chippewa County, and the county does not allow concrete side slopes on driveways along its highways. Ask the county Highway Department about your road before the drive is laid out.

Lots near water have one more layer. Outside city and village limits, the county’s shoreland zoning applies by distance from the water, and it counts a patio, a walk or a sidewalk as a structure.

So a patio on a lake lot starts with a call to county zoning, not with a layout.

An Eau Claire Concrete Company That Works in Chippewa Falls

We are concrete contractors based in Eau Claire, and we work in Chippewa Falls the same way we do at home: we look at the site, write up the scope and price, and handle the tear-out, base, forming, pour and finish.

When you call, tell us whether the property is inside the city, what is there now and what you want poured. If the job touches the street, the sidewalk or the shoreline, say so, because that decides which office has to be asked first.

Chippewa Falls Concrete Questions

Do I need a permit to replace a driveway in Chippewa Falls?

For the part that crosses the public right-of-way, yes. City code requires a driveway permit from the Director of Public Works to construct, reconstruct or maintain a driveway across or within a street or alley right-of-way. The city's permits page listed the fee at $50 in October 2026. Ask Public Works whether the part on your own lot needs anything.

Does a driveway approach have to be concrete in Chippewa Falls?

Where the street has curb and gutter, yes. City code says the approach must be concrete there and gravel is not permitted. Where there is no public sidewalk and no curb and gutter, the code allows concrete or blacktop.

Who pays for sidewalk repair in Chippewa Falls?

The property owner. The city's own answers page says the owner pays 100 percent of sidewalk installation and upkeep. Replacing an entire frontage of sidewalk takes the city's $50 permit, and the city says no permit is required for partial sidewalk replacement.

How close to the lot line can a patio or walk go in Chippewa Falls?

City zoning allows walks, drives and paved terraces in setback areas, but no closer than 3 feet to an abutting property line other than a street line. The code does not say whether a new patio at grade needs a building permit, so ask the City Inspector before work starts.

Do you work in Chippewa Falls or only in Eau Claire?

Both. We work in Eau Claire, Altoona, Chippewa Falls and nearby Chippewa Valley towns. If a job is outside that area, we say so on the first call.
